Semester 1 – Animation
​
The first part of the course will include introducing the practice, theory, and history of animation within art and independent media through labs, lectures, readings, and project critiques. Production will cover photographic stop-motion as well as 2D and 3D computer animation. Our main emphasis will be on developing creative content, experimentation, and critical thinking skills. Students will work with computer-based editing and 2D (and, if time permits, 3D) animation tools to create a series of significant animation projects using one or more techniques.

Semester 2
This part of the course will provide students with a fundamental understanding of the pre-production, production, and post-production processes of video production and filmmaking. Students will get hands-on instruction with camcorders and editing software, not to mention lighting and sound equipment. Along with hands-on productions, students will survey the history of filmmaking and analyze the various styles of filmmaking and editing. Students will understand and apply the different camera shots, movement, composition, and continuity in their collaborative individual and group assignments through their studies. Students will implement evaluations of classic and contemporary films and individual and group projects.
PROJECT TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:
Audio: sound, music, soundtracks, scores, and their relation to move-making
Media Mash - editing video montages
Silent Films - Where it began.
Music Videos - your friend’s performing and/or creative solution to an existing song
Parody – the art of comedic criticism
Documentary Film-Making – garnering support for a cause through cinema
